Maccabi USA Boys Soccer Website

We are excited to share that we have created a website for the Maccabi Team USA delegation visiting Berlin this summer for the 2015 European Maccabi Games. This pro bono project is designed to create community among the team member, their families, and the entire Maccabi USA organization. The website features all the information for the tournament, as well as game reports, standings, stats, photos, and videos.

The European Maccabi Games are Europe’s biggest Jewish sports event, and takes place every four years in different European cities. In 2015, 36 countries will compete at the games across 19 disciplines.

Five countries will compete in the boys’s soccer competition between the U.S., Great Britain, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. Those five teams will play a round robin group stage, before the teams with the most points after the group stage play in the Gold Medal games, while the two countries with the next best results play each other for the Bronze Medal.

Outside of the competition, the games also hope to encourage Jewish pride in its participating athletes, and strengthen bonds within the Jewish community.

This year’s edition of the games also takes on added meaning as it will be the first time the games will take place in Berlin, nearly 80 years after the 1936 Berlin Olympics, which German Jewish athletes were banned from competing in during the reign of the Nazis.
